RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds are basic text files with continually updated information — news pieces, articles, or in our case, live video content. RSS feeds can be pasted into apps and websites which automatically access updates to your content. This allows your audience to stay up to date on a variety of platforms, including podcast hosts, smart TV apps, and websites. Here’s how it works with BoxCast.
Podcasting has grown dramatically as more and more people have recognized the value of recurring audio content. Many organizations have taken advantage of this growth by launching their own podcasts.
BoxCast RSS feeds automatically convert your live broadcasts into file formats for podcasting, which you can share with any podcast host, such as iTunes, Google Play, or Stitcher.
If you’re interested in video podcasting on iTunes, BoxCast can share an .mp4 video file in place of an audio track as well.
BoxCast has always made it possible for viewers to watch your broadcasts on smart TV devices like Roku, AppleTV, and Amazon Fire TV using the BoxCast-branded app. Some organizations may want to create their own branded smart TV apps to further control this experience. Tools like Roku Direct Publisher and Amazon Creator have made it easier than ever to publish on their respective platforms.
With BoxCast's MRSS feeds (which function similarly to RSS feeds), you can keep content syndicated on your own custom Roku and Amazon Fire TV apps. The only downsides are that you won’t be able to track video viewership in your custom smart TV apps, and videos that stream to those apps from BoxCast are only available on demand.
If you want a smart TV app that includes live video streams and viewer analytics from BoxCast, we can create a branded smart TV app for your organization.
Here are some examples of branded smart TV apps we've created:

RSS feeds give you a wide range of options for sharing and repurposing your live content. You can build your own custom mobile apps to distribute live content using a third-party app provider like Good Barber. If your organization has a blog page or content hub, embedding an RSS feed of your livestreams can also be a great way to keep your fans updated. The possibilities are endless.
The ability to repurpose your livestreams for podcasting and smart TV apps can help your organization reach viewers in more places than ever before.
Speaking of which, keep in mind that we also offer simulcasting to multiple destinations, automatic archival of all streams as recorded broadcasts, and a one-time website embed.
